We spent the weekend right before Christmas in Charleston, South Carolina. It was our first time in the south and Charleston is beyond beautiful and the perfect little town for a quick weekend getaway! It’s just a two-hour flight from NYC and now that the high tourist season is over, Charleston felt calm and cozy with all its beautiful holiday decorations.
Temperatures around 25°c made it easy to explore the city by foot. The old-fashioned southern architecture is something that just creates a relaxed atmosphere. It was also the first time that I experienced how the pre-Christmas season feels when it is not freezing outside. Palm trees covered in Christmas decorations set you in a very different mood, but I have to say that I surprisingly liked it a lot (still a winter lover though :-p). Fortunately, the concept of healthy living has not travelled to the south yet and all the delicious indulgences at affordable prices were perfect for this time of the year. Speaking of restaurants – living in NYC, I’m not used to walking into a restaurant with a stroller just to get a table right away WITH the stroller.
The overall travel experience with crazy-active-almost-one-year-old-Nova went surprisingly smooth. We bought a couple of new toys so that she was entertained during the flight, that thankfully wasn’t fully booked so that she could get her own seat + car seat. She was always cheerful, quickly befriended all the hotel staff and overall had a pleasant time during our Charleston adventure, despite the fact that she always went to bed super late and had to take little cat naps in the stroller throughout the day. We stayed in the Hyatt House Charleston which was super kid friendly and in a perfect location right on King street.
Now go and visit Charleston y’all :)
