Korean Skin Care 101

How to do the korean skincare routine1

Over the last year, I got really into obsessed with Korean Skin Care. I have no idea if this is an equally big thing in Europe but here in the US, it seems to be in every magazine, blog and also physical stores/chains started to advertise and carry Korean brands/products. In the beginning, I was just curious about this whole 10 step regimen since it sounded equal parts insane and luxurious to me. I started to notice all the Korean women with the most beautiful, porcelain skin (did I ever mention that I spend way too much time eating Korean BBQ, Korean Chicken etc. in NYCs K’town? Different story for another time) and began researching the secrets behind Korean skincare.

In a nutshell, Korean women take a different approach to makeup than we do on the Western side of the world. Skincare is a big part of their culture, and while the European/American approach to skincare is more reactive, Korean women start being proactive from a very young age and tend to view caring for their skin and complexion as the ultimate investment – worthy of not only their money but even more so their time. Many perform an intricate 10-step(!) cleansing and moisturizing routine—every single night. Koreans (especially women, but men as well) view the care of skin as something to savor and enjoy.  Read More >

New York Getaways – Apple Picking

Apple Picking (2 of 7)_w1000h667

Living in the city doesn’t mean that you cannot pretend to be a country bumpkin, every now and then. The three of us went apple picking with a friend at Barton Orchards the other day and we had so much fun. The farm is roughly 80 minutes away from the city and there are so many fun things to do.

We were a little hesitant at first, because most farms in the upstate area got mixed reviews on yelp. It turns out the only reason is people going on weekends when it’s super crowded. Angry people waiting in line for hours leave 1 star on yelp – that’s the secret of all those mixed reviews. We were lucky enough being able to go on a weekday and the weather was fantastic! The farm offers so many different activities. Playgrounds, artisans, live music, baked goods, a corn maze, a petting zoo, pumpkins, vegetable fields and yes – apple trees. We obviously did end up with too many apples at the end of the day. Fortunately, pinterest is the perfect inspiration to solve that problem.

A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to attend one of westelms biggest event of the season, a customized christmas stocking workshop with Naomi & Josh Davis of love taza!!
I’ve been reading their blog for years now and these two are probably my favorite bloggers/instagramers of all time which made the event even more special!!

We made our personalized stockings, had too much hot chocolate and donuts and everything was just so festive and fun :D Turned out my craft skills haven’t improved since kindergarten (already complained about everything crafty back then haha) but my surprisingly crafty husband made up for it (Who’d have guessed that after 7 years together you could still learn sth new about each other?)
Below are a few pictures of the event, enjoy!

Keep in mind

quote2

I know, I know. Sometimes those quotes are just so f**ing deep or lame that it hurts (“love your life” kay, thanks, bye) BUT some are actually really good reminders of what’s important in life or what matters the most to you.
I became quite fond of my carefully selected quotes on pinterest and sometimes during those late-night-iphone-pinning-sessions-in-bed (sounds familiar?) it feels so good to look at them and think about your own principles in life.  Read More >

Isn’t it funny how time seems to move at an incredibly low pace when you’re waiting for something? We’ve tracked the months, weeks and now days with the pregnancy and the closer we get (8 weeks to go!) the slower each moment seems to pass. We’re beyond excited to finally meet her and although we haven’t bought a single thing yet *cough*, we feel SO ready to do this!
Here are some new stats and some random facts about being pregnant in the US since so many of you asked :)
Also look at those chubby little baby cheeks!!

Monday again – need Coffee?

Posted on: Monday, October 6, 2014

abm 101

I’ve never been a heavy coffee drinker, maybe one/two cups per day pre pregnancy and during the first trimester I couldn’t even stand the smell of coffee. However, things changed and since the second trimester coffee is basically the only thing I REALLY crave and I’d love to drink it 5 times a day (which I’m not doing btw). Today, I’ll try to compensate my cravings with some nice coffee related stuff from around the web and since it’s Monday, a little online caffeine boost might be exactly the thing you could need as well. Enjoy :)

Why I came to love Pinterest and why you should too!

For a long time I didn’t get what all the Pinterest fuss is about. It seemed boring and useless to me and I was like “ain’t nobody got time for that”.
Over time however, I changed my mind. Pinterest is beautiful, well organized and people who are already pinning know that it’s far more than that. Pinterest can easily be whatever you want it to be.
This will not be another one of those “how to increase your blog traffic with Pinterest…” posts but rather a little inspiration for you on how Pinterest can become a real useful tool for your daily online life and maybe it can convince you to also give it a try.

I don’t know about you but I loooove figs! It’s kind of funny because I’m actually allergic to them so I always need to go through the hassle of heating them first but I don’t care because I think they’re worth the trouble since they’re awesome in so many ways – hot or cold, as jam or chutney, with cheese or oatmeal…the list is probably endless!
During this time of time of the year I’m therefore always on the hunt for new ways to make something delicious with figs. Below are my recent top 5 fig-discoveries around the blogosphere, maybe you’ll find something to try yourselves this weekend?

The fall 2014 TV season – My Highlights

Posted on: Friday, September 5, 2014

large_5045580752

I don’t know about you but the hubby and I are huge TV Series addicts and we always try to keep up with a lot(!) of shows while at the same time wanting to watch at least 10 more. Television, especially the television that’s being produced now seems to be of much higher quality than so many movies and because television is increasingly becoming a writer’s medium, it is attracting the best acting talent. Actors who would have run from television a decade ago are now embracing it precisely because the quality is so high.

The Guardian sums it up pretty nicely:

“At its best, a TV show can be freeform, veering from comedy to thriller to horror and back again. Films, with their desperate need to be marketed properly, tend to simplify to sell. A show such as Breaking Bad didn’t have those constraints. Even though one episode made you laugh, the next could have you hyperventilating with abject fear. Every moment of that show was a rollercoaster, and a uniquely televisual one at that.”

Ok, enough with the small talk. Why am I telling you all this and why do I make such a big deal about the fall 2014 season when I’ve watched countless of tv shows already without discussing them on my blog? Because we now live in the states and enjoy the awesome freedom of a netflix account & american cable (thank you lord!). We don’t like to wait. We’re impatient people. We want it now and Netflix gave us exactly what we want, instant access to almost all of our favorite shows (Do I hear the binge bells ringing?).

So here are some highlights of the fall 2014 tv season to get you excited for new and returning shows!
