Hey everyone! I hope you had wonderful Christmas with lots of nice food, laughter & happiness! We spent our first ever Christmas away from home and celebrated Christmas Eve with good friends & great food! We’re are really enjoying those last, relaxing days as just the two of us with lots of reading, cuddling and hot chocolate while having hospital bag & car seat ready to go :) Those last weeks of pregnancy have been as tough as everybody told me beforehand but I won’t complain since it won’t be much longer until we finally meet our sweet little baby! We’re so excited!!

Over the last couple of years I’ve become quite picky when it comes to the quality of my shoes because especially in Winter it’s crucial to have some nice quality boots that keep your feet warm and dry. Overknees are a big thing this season and I was happy about a shoe trend that would actually keep my legs warm, can be matched with thick woolen socks and can easily be dressed up or down. The fact that Overknees will even work well with a fancy Christmas dress and are still comfortable when you’re nine months pregnant (watch for a zipper at the side unless you want to wear them for the rest of your pregnant life) make them worth an investment, don’t you think?
However, the tradeoff between not too much of an investment (say good bye to Stuart Weitzman) and not compromising on good quality at the same time turned out to be quite a challenge here in the US. Maybe I’m not familiar enough with all the brands/shops yet but all of the Overknees that I looked at/ordered online were either suuuper expensive, not made of leather or looked more like biker boots.

Whew! Busy times over here right now. The holiday season is of course always filled with a lot of events and Christmas parties but right now I’m also trying my best to make as much use as possible of those last days where I can manage to move around the city.
I’m already waddling in slow motion and I have to plan my daily activities carefully because it might as well be that this one trip to the post office already marks the end of that days adventures :D
So while I’m busy crossing off all those christmassy activities in the city as quickly as possible, I still got some pictures from our days in Vermont for you.
The bump will soon be gone so no pictures should get left behind ;)

So far November has been quite good to us. Last weekend we enjoyed a warm and sunny afternoon walk around the upper west side, having a nice snack at whole foods columbus circle before strolling back home through central park.
Slowly I have to begin to carefully plan and portion those little activities a bit more because my body doesn’t approve of walking the city the whole day anymore. So there are no spontaneous “First, shopping in Soho, then coffee in Williamsburg, before dinner & cinema in midtown” days for the next couple of weeks ;)
But I do have to say that I don’t miss our car at all so far. It feels so good to be outside everyday and always walk everywhere. Maybe because everybody does it and nobody has a car? Anyways, let’s hope for another sunny week in November :)

Isn’t it funny how time seems to move at an incredibly low pace when you’re waiting for something? We’ve tracked the months, weeks and now days with the pregnancy and the closer we get (8 weeks to go!) the slower each moment seems to pass. We’re beyond excited to finally meet her and although we haven’t bought a single thing yet *cough*, we feel SO ready to do this!
Here are some new stats and some random facts about being pregnant in the US since so many of you asked :)
Also look at those chubby little baby cheeks!!

Hey everyone! We’re back from a wonderful little roadtrip that took us upstate (more about that soon!) and while I’m still battling the post vacation blues, I’m bombing you with a picture overload from a lovely day with my parents in Brooklyn. From walking the Brooklyn Bridge and DUMBO to visiting the Mast Brothers Chocolate Factory and a cute little “beer garden” in the afternoon, we’ve spent the most wonderful sunny fall day together. Squeeze in a little shopping and the best iced coffee from blue bottle and you have two happy visiting parents :)

There are still outfits that doesn’t make you look pregnant at all and then there are dungarees :D
So if you ever wanna look HUGE, dungarees are your best friends.
When I look at these photos I can’t believe that this belly is going to grow for two more months but despite how uncomfortable it gets with every week that passes, I totally adore this big baby belly of mine! Not a single day goes by where I don’t get the sweetest comments from strangers in the subway, in a store or just by walking down the street (big love America!) and everybody is just too nice!
It has been raining nonstop for the last two days which resulted in the first days where it felt remotely like fall. I guess I’m just used to much worse weather when it comes to fall and I’m still waiting to come home freezing a bit and looking forward to a cup of tea & my blanket. However, the weather forecast shows a sunny 19ºC weekend so there’s that ;)

For the last ten days my husband and I had both our sisters and my parents in NYC for a visit and it was just wonderful to have them all around and explore the city together. My parents had been to NYC before so there was absolutely no sightseeing pressure and we could all enjoy the big apple at our own pace.

I’m a bit sad that this is probably the last appearance of Birks on the blog for 2014.
This trend is just too awesome to be true for the lazy pregnant woman and I’m already dreading the days of big belly + boots (bye bye chelsea boots).
Although it’s still relatively sunny and green in NYC, you can definitely feel fall creeping around and t-shirt days are officially over I guess. Still need to get my hands on a proper checked flannel shirt to get in the mood :)
This week the family is here for a visit and I’m excited to spend a few days filled with touristy activities with my loved ones!

I can’t tell you how much I love Sundays in NYC. I always hated those super packed European Saturdays and sleepy, closed Sundays which made you even more aware of the upcoming Monday – depressing! Now we spent our Sundays strolling the streets of the City, brunching with friends, maybe a little shopping stroll on our way back and everybody is out and about in a relaxed mood. I love it!

Even though we officially arrived in September, Summer didn’t leave NYC yet. During the weekend it was incredibly hot & humid and I was actually sweating like crazy when these pictures were taken.
Yesterday was much better but as much as I try to enjoy these last days of Summer I’m so looking forward to rainy afternoons in cozy sweaters, flannel shirts, hats & candles.
Can’t help it, I’m a fall/winter girl.
P.S. Basically craving almond boba tea every. single. day.
You might need to get used to seeing it on pictures if this continues :D

Three weeks have passed since we moved to NYC but it feels just like a blink of an eye. These first weeks have been so much fun, we got to know so many people and everything was just very exciting! There’s still no everyday life with all the parties, events, organizing furniture and handling organizational issues but no complaining of course. Tonight we’re having our first real TV night at home because we’re excited to watch the Emmy awards with tons of snacks and food :) This past weekend also marked being 20 weeks pregnant which means I am half way through this pregnancy, so I thought I post some stats of how things are going over here.
